Guarded Review

J.D. Rivera was generous enough to give us an ARC of Guarded and I absolutely loved it! It’s a cute little Novella that should be coming out in September.

Synopsis: Vanessa Smith has her heart guarded. She’s been married to a man that sleeps around and has made her think she’s ugly and undeserving. Everything changes when she is knocked down by the famous basketball player, Jackson Berrios. A friendship ensues and everything she thought she knew about men turns out to be wrong.

Jackson Berrios was out for a run in a new city when he made contact with the beautiful Vanessa Smith. He instantly knew she was different from most girls but can he make her see that he’s different from her cheating husband?

Review: Vanessa Smith has had a rough four years of marriage. Her soon to be ex-husband is scum and she can’t wait to get it over with. He’s done nothing but cheat on her and she’s ready to make her divorce official! She doesn’t think she can ever trust another man after what he’s put her through. But one day as she’s running by the lake she gets knocked down. And by the most gorgeous hunk of man on the face of the planet, Jackson Berrios. He’s a famous basketball player, but she doesn’t realize that at first! He apologizes profusely and ends up spending the day with her. She can’t fathom why he would want to spend time with her once she realizes who he is. Her soon to be ex-husband has told her several times how plain she is and how no man would ever want her. That she was lucky he had even married her.

A month of thinking about him passes and he shows up at the school where she works. She can’t believe her eyes. Their relationship seems to be taking off, but her divorce still isn’t finalized and she’s still uneasy of trusting another man. They go back and forth with this and she wonders if it’s wrong to fall in love so soon after having her heart broken and trampled on for four years. Can she really trust him and finally have a happy ever after?

I loved the romance this had as well as the humor. It had me smiling and I didn’t even realize it! The chemistry between Vanessa and Jackson is super charged. I give it 4.5 stars!
